Netflix Kristen Bell ‘Nobody Wants This’ -Episode 8 Recap and Explained
Curiosity kills the cat in episode 8 when an impatient Joanne finally confronts Noah about the box of Rebecca’s things. Noah confesses to still having possession of the box and promises to either get rid of it or return it to Rebecca. But in the company of Morgan and her mother, Joanne finally succumbs to her curiosity and opens the box. Inside she finds photos and memorabilia of Noah and Rebecca’s relationship.
At the temple, Noah is proposed with a promotion to the position of head rabbi. However, to become one he must marry within his religion, setting an example for the people. With Joanne being a gentile, the role of the head rabbi for Noah would be unspeakable. Thus, he tries to lure Joanne’s religious persuasions towards Judaism by exaggerating the celebration of his culture in front of her. He invites Sasha over for dinner to celebrate ‘Havdalah’, a beautiful ceremony marking the end of ‘Shabbat’ by locating the three stars in the night sky.
Meanwhile, Miriam’s bat mitzvah prep goes on in full swing. Since her grandmother wishes to pay for the party, Miriam and Esther must do everything she wishes for the celebration. Even though Miriam hates her dress, and the theme of the Big Apple, Esther asks her to comply. Rebecca accompanies Esther in the preparation, and Noah’s mother assures her that in the long run, Noah will return to Rebecca and they will end up together. Just then, Rebecca receives a text from Noah asking her to meet. While she feels the meeting is an effort to reconcile, it is actually planned to return her things to her.
In the evening, Sasha, Esther and Miriam make their way to Noah’s house for dinner. While Sasha and Miriam are impressed by Joanne’s hosting, Esther has her reservations owing to Rebecca. Simultaneously, Morgan spots Rebecca in a bar, and pretending not to know her, sparks a conversation about her ex-boyfriend Noah. She texts Joanne updates, but since Joanne cannot access her phone until after Shabbat, Joanne is in the dark about Morgan’s encounter.
At dinner, Joanna consoles Miriam about the theme and the dress for her bat mitzvah saying that New York is cool, hip and trendy. Miriam feels relieved that Joanne thinks the theme is cool and agrees. Esther is grateful to Joanne for making Miriam feel better about her party. After dinner, the couples go outside to spot the three stars for ‘Havdalah’.
Now that Joanne has access to her phone again, she sees Morgan’s texts, who tells her that Noah met Rebecca that day and the two decided to reconcile. A furious Joanne goes to the room to look for the box, and to her shock, finds it gone. She asks Noah about the meeting, who comes clean about dropping off the box at Rebecca’s place. The rest of the texts, he suggests are made up of lies. Trusting Noah, Joanne storms into Morgan’s house and accuses her of lying to break off their relationship. She blames Morgan for being envious of the couple and only thinking about podcast views and streams. The sisters get into a massive argument and Joanne leaves in a fury.
Joanne returns to Noah’s house and is informed about the promotion opportunity. While she feels ecstatic for him, she is now faced with the daunting, looming question of conversion. The episode ends on a cliffhanger as Joanne is unable to make a decision at that instant.
